Fourth graders will present their art projects in the Ching student center  on Apr. 24 to families and friends. The exhibits feature progress over the course of the school year.

“The purpose of the show is to celebrate students’ hard work and show off their talent,” said Malia Urie, lower school art teacher.

The show is comprised of watercolor and oil pastel paintings. Multi-media projects and 3D sculptures created from recycled materials will also be displayed.

Students’ oil pastel paintings were inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, an American painter who is known for his pastel works of desserts.

“My hope is that the students will get used to the idea of creating art and sharing it with the world, and learn that attending an art show can be a fun and educational activity,” said Urie.

In years past, the lower school has hosted a ceramics show, featuring ceramic pieces from the entire lower school and some 2D work. This year the program will specifically highlight the fourth grade.

The art will remain in the student center for a few weeks after the event.
