Sacred Hearts Academy’s Lower School basketball team remains undefeated, winning 10 games this division II Catholic Schools League (CSL) season.

For the second year in a row, Sacred Hearts Academy’s Lower School basketball team remains undefeated, winning 10 games this Division II Catholic Schools League (CSL) season.

“I’m very proud of this team,” Head Coach Hunt Meadows said. “The returning girls push each other to be better in practice and really try to help the new girls with their skill development.”

Meadows also attributes the winning streak, for the 6th grade and under team, to the group of girls who returned from last year’s season.

“It really helps when you have a group of girls that can lead by example for the new girls to learn from,” he said. “To see their improvement over the last few months was great.”

One of those girls, sixth grader Kortne Ibrao said, “Coach Hunt is a very inspiring coach. I think we have succeeded with him as coach because his attitude and teaching methods are gentle, yet he is still pushing us to do our best.”

Both of Meadow’s daughters were on the team last year.

Sixth grader Hailey Meadows said, “I like having my dad as a coach because when we get home after practice or a game, we review how it went and how the team and I can get better.”

The Lower School basketball team is now starting the division I CSL season. In this season, there are teams with athletes in seventh to eighth grade. The Academy’s team consists of fifth and sixth graders.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how our very determined (confident) young ladies compete this season,” Hunt Meadows said. “It is a great challenge and really fun to see how our girls compete against older athletes.”

Ibrao hopes to win the next championship with her team.

“It feels good to know that we have won our championship games, and we continue to be our best in the next ones,” she said.
