The new class, “Stage and Screen,”  is offering an exciting opportunity for students to see “Mary Poppins” at Diamond Head Theater.

Students who are currently enrolled in the class or who will take the class next semester can enjoy the live presentation with teacher Chloe Smith.

Smith said, “Viewing a live production is so much different than reading a script. I always tell my students that plays were meant to be performed and seen. The playwright did not intend for us to read their plays at home in bed; they expected us to view them on stage.”

Smith is making attendance mandatory for her students because “It’s so valuable to view actors, props, the stage, musicians and directors who bring a script to life.”

Smith also stresses the importance of attending plays in person because “Entertainment today has become so fast-paced and technology-driven. Theater helps students realize that human beings, costumes, humor, human interaction and music can provide just as much entertainment as The Kardashians or a video game.”

Though the play is meant for “Stage and Screen” students, Smith also has a limited number of tickets for students who not taking the class.  A wait list for interested students has been created and tickets will be given based on a first-come first-served basis.
