Students who prepare for exams in advance will do better.

As the second quarter ends, midterm exams promptly arrive. Teachers are providing study guides for students within the next two weeks leading to semester finals before the winter break.

Senior Angelica Barker said, ” Exams are always hard because it covers two quarters worth of material. I prepare for exams by studying early and incrementally so that when the time comes to study for exams and it is crunch time, I am not overwhelmed with work and seven classes to study for.”

Preparing for exams in advance is the best option according to students. Unlike regular chapter and unit tests, two quarters worth of seven classes back to back will be a challenge.

Junior Cirena Aiwohi said, “My first year attending Sacred Hearts Academy I did not really know what to expect for the exams. I did not study much and to my surprise the tests were thorough and hard. After that year, I always study in advance and take advantage of the study guides and time teachers provide.”

Although seniors have submitted applications and some have been accepted to the colleges of their choice, second quarter grades and first semester grades are still important. Colleges can revoke acceptance if students display academic laxity after acceptance.

Spanish teacher Susan Solomine said, “To help students prepare for exams, I always provide study guides with content that will be on the exams. I also review the content for a week leading up to the midterm exams. I believe that content on the exam should be reviewed so students are able to do well and display the knowledge that we learned so far in the year.”

Students should also study in quiet environments.

Science teacher James Bell said, “I advise students to find a quiet place to study. Students who cram every year always are more stressed and unprepared for the exam. Preparation time is essential for students to perform the best that they are capable of accomplishing.”
