Bowls created by the Academy’s ceramics classes will be sold at the fourth annual 2015 Empty Bowl Hawaii event which benefits “Meals on Wheels” to provide meals to senior citizens and other individuals with disabilities.

Ceramics teacher Kaycie Baltunado is excited about her students’  involvement  in the event.

“I’m looking forward to this,” said Baltunado. “Since we didn’t have this event last year, I’m glad that we can continue to support this project.”

This year’s “Empty Bowl Hawaii” event will take place at “Our Kakaako” on 445+449 Cooke St. from 6 to 9 p.m on Apr. 11. The bowls were made by high school students at several Oahu schools. Bowls will be sold for $25 and includes a meal of soup and bread, which will be provided by 26 restaurants, including Alan Wong’s Pineapple Room, California Pizza Kitchen and Nico’s Pier 38.

The function does more than just feed the hungry.

“The event also reminds people that there are always empty bowls around the world. It makes others appreciate what they have,” said Baltunado.
