Seniors Kathryn McKee and Janelle Domanguera and sophomore Haylee Bennett recently participated in the Waianae Adventure Challenge (WAC) as part of St. Louis School’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC).
Hosted by the Waianae High School JROTC, the WAC is held annually in April. It features events including water crossing, swimming, physical fitness test, rope bridging, rappelling and outrigger canoe paddling.
McKee said, “I have participated in JROTC since I was a freshman. I love spending time with my battalion at events like these. It requires us to work together and support each other both emotionally and physically. ”
Twenty-five high schools and 400 Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force JROTC cadets from around the state competed in this year’s two-day event. The competition was held at the Herbert K. Pililaau Army Recreation Center (PARC); spiritual retreat center, Our Lady of Keaau; and Albert Silva ranch.
At the end of the competition, the St. Louis JROTC cadets earned numerous trophies and awards.
Domanguera said, “I was very proud of the hard work my battalion put into this weekend. I’ve been a part of the STL JROTC program for four years now. Although we were awarded trophies this past weekend, we are still waiting for the final results from the judges who scored our score sheets.”
