YouTube videos provide a wealth of information for teens, including how to cook, how to jump start a car and how to do current hair styles.

YouTube is one of the most popular video web sites on the Internet. It has videos for comedy, music and tutorials and allows users to view or upload their own information.

Tutorials on YouTube are the go-to source for many teens for a variety of tasks including learning how to do makeup or hair, the latest dance steps or preparing a meal.

YouTube videos are not only quick but are usually easy to follow and understand.

Senior Kauionalani Kekuawela said, “I watch YouTube tutorial videos as opposed to reading step by step procedures or asking for help because they are easier to follow along. I can see every step, and I can also replay any step as much as I want.”

Currently, the most viewed video on YouTube is “How to moon walk like Michael Jackson.” The tutorial video is no more than two minutes long and has been viewed almost 16 million times.

Junior Erica Freitas said, “ Many of the most viewed Youtube videos are tutorials and how-to videos. This is not surprising because I also watch these videos. Seeing how successful these Youtube videos are it also inspires me to do videos like these.”

Tutorials also provide a way for many people who want to know how to do certain tasks, including prom hairstyles and makeup or even how to make a dress for the prom. Many channels have over a million subscribers, or users.

Senior Gezelle Siruno said, “The makeup tutorials online helped me to learn how to put makeup on properly. They also suggest cheap alternatives rather than buying $50 eye shadows, which are almost identical to the drugstore products.”

YouTube also comes in handy during emergency situations, including how to replace a flat tire or jumpstart a car.

Sophomore Kela Wong said, “YouTube is easy to navigate and is very easy to teach others how to use it. My parents use YouTube almost every day after I taught them how to use it. They use it to look up cooking tutorials and other household skills. YouTube is versatile and an easy to use program that is beneficial for learning new skills.”
