Traveling abroad yields unexpected benefits

Travel to foreign countries can help teens develop a wider perspective and an appreciation for their own lives.

The world is no longer as big as it used to be. Communication has become immediate and access to different cultures is quite possible.

Still, traveling to a foreign country has benefits that cannot be underestimated.

One can better understand the people and their everyday lives in a real setting. The understanding helps one to see the similarities and differences between one’s own country and that of others.

Travel also increases one’s knowledge and widens one’s perspective.

Travel benefits the body and mind because it allows relaxation. Since work can become stressful, by taking vacations, it allows recharging oneself.

When one travels with family, it allows them to create memories that will last a lifetime. Sharing these experiences can bring one closer to their family.

Sophomore Summer Tsukenjo said, “I really enjoy traveling because it is fun. I can take a lot of great pictures and make memories. It allows me to try activities that aren’t available here where I live.”

Traveling is not just for discovering things about other people and cultures, it can help one to discover themselves. When one sees the many things that the world has to offer, they can find what they want in life.

Sophomore Janette Bow-Keola said, “Traveling has many benefits. From my time traveling such as to Australia and other countries, I learned about the country and it’s culture firsthand. Traveling brought me many opportunities to expand on my knowledge. It also allowed me to have fun and make many opportunities with the people I traveled with!”
