The Academy’s sixth graders began a little sister- big sister program which allows the older students to pair up with one of their younger schoolmates. Students help partners with homework, projects and create friendships.

Sixth grade teacher Griffith Jurgens said, “We’ve been doing the program for three years now, and it is an opportunity to bring our school closer together. It gives the sixth grade girls the chance to be a role model for the younger ones, assist with projects and activities that might be difficult with only one or two teachers in the classroom and create new friendships throughout the school.”

The program was begun to form positive relationships between older and younger students in the lower school.

Sixth grader Anna Sakai said, “ This opportunity has allowed me to become more involved in my school and get to know my younger schoolmates. I cannot wait to experience this again during freshman and junior year.”
