Eleven students with exceptional language skills and service were inducted into the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, or Spanish Honor Society (SHH), on Apr. 30.

The SHH began in 1953 and currently has over 2,000 national and international chapters. Scholarships and awards based on community service and publications in the Spanish community are given every year to 52 seniors and 24 juniors nationwide.

Juniors Jacqueline Medrano, Ashley Barley, Sydney Tsukenjo, Giselle Redila, Monica Ho, Nicole Corpuz and sophomores Linsey Kim, Haley Clark, Ye Eun Lee, Erica Freitas, Hallie Pound and Savanna Torres were inducted into the Sacred Hearts’ chapter that began in 2002.

These students completed an essay and short video to complete the application process. They are expected to be available during at least one lunch period a week for tutoring and to continue Spanish next year.

Corpuz said, “I was so excited to be inducted into the SHH. I love Spanish and can’t wait for the activities and creative writing next year!”

“I will be continuing Spanish at the AP level and being invited to become a member of the SHH is such an honor. I hope I do get to tutor a few students next year,” said Lee.
