Seniors share bagels with Bishop Silva

Bishop Larry Silva will visit Sacred Hearts and meet with the Senior Class in an event called “Bagels with the Bishop” on Mar. 22. This will be the second year the Bishop visits Sacred Hearts. Father Gary Secor, the Vicar of the Diocese, and Mike Rockers, the superintendent of Catholic schools, will also be in attendance.

“The students will have breakfast with the Bishop,” said Sr. Katherine Francis Miller, campus minister. “That’s why it’s called Bagels with the Bishop.”

“Before the Bishop arrives, the girls are invited to write down any questions they have about the Bishop or the church,” said Sister. “The Bishop will take pictures with each senior individually, sign the picture and then send it to her.

“The Bishop comes to Sacred Hearts to make sure that the church doesn’t lose touch with them as they leave a Catholic school,” said Sister. “He wants to keep them involved in the church, whether they are Catholic or not. He wants them to know that the church is interested in them even after they graduate.

“He will also speak to each student individually and ask them where they intend to go after graduation,” said Sister. “His office will then let every senior know whether there is a campus ministry or club or a parish church close to where they are going to school.

“The students benefit getting to know the Bishop, who he is, what he does,” said Sister. “They realize that the church is interested in them, not just when they are in high school. They also learn that when they need pastoral help or care, the church is available to them.”

I think that it is great that you are the seniors have breakfast with the bishop. Also that it’s great how the bishop gave us the time to know him.

I think that the way that the Bishop took it upon himself to go and make sure that the seniors know the church is still available to them even after they graduate. I also liked how the Church was actually giving the seniors the chance to do this and remind them to still go to Church.

I like your title “Seniors share bagels with Bishop Silva” was creative. I liked how you gave what the seniors would be doing with Bishop Silva and the other people that will be coming with him. And also I like how you had put several quotes in your article.

I think it is really cool that the bishop comes to visit the Seniors. I am sure that even though I am not Catholic, it must be very cool to ask him questions and it will help me later on when I am out of high school.

I think it’s great that the Bishop takes time out of his day to speak to our seniors about their faith and their future. It’s comforting to know that Bishop Larry cares about today’s youth.
