Mobile photo editing enters age of technology

Mobile photo editing enters age of technology

With technological advancements in the cellular world, consumers are able to take pictures, resize and rotate, adjust lighting and apply different filters to customize pictures on their smartphones.

The introduction of Adobe Photoshop in 2003 by Adobe Systems, a leader in the digital community, revolutionized the way pictures were displayed in the media.

Now consumers, especially young adults, edit pictures through phone applications available on the Apple iOS and Android platforms. Popular applications like Instagram and Photoshop Express have taken the mobile community by storm and garnered attention from social media.

Instagram, Camera + and Pic Collage are the among the most popular photo editing applications available on the Apple iOS systems.

Instagram is a photo sharing application with some photo editing features. Instagram was first available on Apple iOS systems and now available on Android phones. Though it requires the use of an account, members are able to edit pictures before uploading and sharing them.

“My favorite thing about Instagram is the fact that you can follow the official Instagram of celebrities and see where they are, what they are doing, and even what they are eating. It makes you feel closer to them in a way,” said junior Christina Pacheco.

“I just made an Instagram this past week and I am addicted to it! The ability to edit my pictures with the many filters and tools provided and share them with all my friends really pulled me in,” said junior Siman Zhang.

Camera + is another photo editing application that allows users to edit pictures with various color filters, exposure effects and unique borders.

The popular photo application, Pic Collage, is one of the best applications to be creative in organizing photos in collages, using cutouts, filters, borders, stickers and text.

“Pic Collage has different sized collages depending on the number of photos you are using to make the collage. I really enjoy the different designs and features that Pic Collage provides,” said junior Samantha Cacayurin.

The most recent smartphone platform created by Google, Android, features popular applications like Photoshop Express, Vignette and Pixlr-o-matic.

Photoshop Express is the mobile version of Adobe’s Photoshop which is only available for desktop computers. Photoshop Express features fast photo editing, various filters and allows users to edit pictures on-the-go or on home computers.

Popular Android live photographing application Vignette allows users to edit pictures before and after they are taken. It features a large collection of filters and includes tools to increase or decrease brightness, saturation and contrast.

Pixlr-o-matic is one of the most established and creative photo editing applications on the Internet and in the mobile word. The application is placed in a darkroom setting allowing people to experiment with the different filters, exposure effects and borders.
