Pizza Hut sponsors the BOOK IT program which rewards children with coupons for personal pan pizzas once they complete reading goals.

“This is the second year that my second grade class has participated in the BOOK IT reading program. I really like how the program works. I assign a monthly book report to my class. Students must read a book with at least 50 or more pages and write up a brief summary. When the assignment is completed, I give them their pizza coupon a a reward. The students really seem to enjoy the free pizza. I think it helps to motivate their reading efforts. If it is offered next year, I plan on using it again,” said teacher Jolene Yoshioka.

Students in the lower school from first to third grade read to accomplish goals that their teachers set and after writing brief reports are rewarded with pizza coupons.

Second grader Sydney Europa said, “My favorite book is ‘Silvermist and the Ladybug Curse’ and my favorite kind of pizza is the Hawaiian style. I love to read and getting pizza for it is even better!

“I think this is a great program that encourages kids to read and receiving pizza is an extra incentive that helps them to expand their vocabulary,” said third grade teacher Melody Coloma.

Just a quick note to mention how great I think it is that this is ieocrporatnd into the website. As Youth Leader at St G’s I rarely get to hear Rev CJ’s sermons as I’m involved with our youth group. I have really enjoyed taking time out of my Monday to hear the Word. Thanks CJ Scott Currie

I remember doing Book It when I was in lower school. It is great to see the younger kids doing it as well.
