Academy sophomore Sara Martell has won a spot in the pregame show for the Pro Bowl with her dance team, HiDef.
The Pro Bowl is an all-star game hosted by the National Football League (NFL) where the best players in the American Football Conference (AFC) play against the best players in the National Football Conference (NFC).
Pro Bowl 2012 had 13.5 million viewers.
Martell has been a dancer for seven years. She began dancing at the age of six when she was a member of NixPac. She continued for a couple years, then took a two-year break. She resumed dance when she realized she missed it.
“I’m nervous because there’s going to be such a large crowd, but we practice three days a week, five hours each practice, so I’m sure we’re going to be prepared,” said Martell.
The HiDef dance team danced at the Pro Bowl two years ago and was lucky enough to have the opportunity again this year.
“HiDef’s dance instructors know people who coordinate things at Aloha Stadium, so they were able to get us a spot at the pregame show. I’m not too sure how they did it, but I’m glad they did,” said Martell.
Martell is a part of the Sacred Hearts Academy dance team and recently played the role of the toy soldier in the Academy winter play, “The Nutcracker.”
The Pro Bowl is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Jan. 27 at the Aloha Stadium and will be televised nationally by The National Broadcast Company (NBC). The head coach of the Green Day Packers, Mike McCarthy will be in charge of the NFC, and the head coach of the Denver Broncos, John Fox, will be in charge of the AFC.
