The Hawaii College and Career Fair has been held annually across the state since 1973. This year the fair will be held on Nov. 16 from 8:30 a.m to 11:00 a.m and from 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m at the Neal Blaisdell Center. Over 200 colleges and universities will be in attendance including public, private, four-year and two-year schools, and international and local institutions. Students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from various colleges, universities, careers and occupations. Since representatives have attended the institution or participated in their programs, they are a good source of first-hand information for students. “There will be workshops that will help students with several aspects of the university application process,” said Randy Fong, senior college counselor. “The fair is free, too, so it’s very beneficial for students who attend.” The College Board has a section of its web site dedicated to college fairs. It recommends taking pen and paper to take notes and a bag to hold all materials colleges hand out. The site also stresses visiting as many booths as possible, not just the colleges students are interested in, because they may stumble upon the perfect college.
