Sacred Hearts supports Aloha United Way and school scholarships

October is the school fundraising month for Aloha United Way (AUW). This year’s projects included Slippers for Scholarships, Costumes for a Cause and the Bake Sale. According to AUW web site, its goals are “to improve lives, motivate people to help others, increase resources to meet needs and inspire collective solutions to community problems.”

Slippers for Scholarships, a new fundraiser, raises money for the scholarship funds of Dr. Martha Dang, a former science teacher, and Antoinette Gopaul, lower school dean. Slippers for Scholarships kicked off the fundraising month.

Sophomore Noel Kenny said, “ Slippers for Scholarship is a good fundraiser for our school to sponsor because it is giving students of Sacred Hearts a chance to give back to the community and also be able to have fun days at school, such as wear slippers for scholarships. I also am glad to donate to the Dr. Dang and Antoinette Gopaul scholarship funds because I am friends with some of the recipients of the scholarships and I am glad to help. ”

The entire student body also participated in the school’s Costume for a Cause fundraiser.

Sophomore Melissa Andres said, “Aloha United Way is a wonderful organization. It helps others, and the students are able to have fun by dressing up while donating to such a worthy cause.”

The Lower School bake sale was another great success. Parents, teachers and staff contributed to the bake sale by donating baked goods and volunteering at the sale which raised $4,136.19 in one day.

In all, the Sacred Hearts community raised $2,713.00 for the scholarship funds and $5,197.00 for Aloha United Way.
