Sweeten Valentine’s Day with these romantic movies

Emotional, romantic movies are enticing to many. Such movies create emotional connections and tender yearnings for love.

At no time are such movies loved more than during the time surrounding Valentine’s Day. The following are five movies sure to sweeten anyone’s day.

“27 Dresses” features Jane Nichols (Katherine Heigl) who is always a bridesmaid but never a bride. She busies herself by planning and participating in the weddings of others, collecting many bridesmaids’ dresses, hence the title “27 dresses.” However, when a journalist takes note of her story and her sister comes to town, her love life and happiness become entangled.

“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” showcases the life of eccentric Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn). One day, after losing her apartment key again, she stumbles across a young writer, Paul Varjak (George Peppard). The two explore Manhattan’s East Side together and spend a considerable amount of time at Golightly’s favorite place: the windows of Tiffany’s. Prior commitments, personal insecurities and financial difficulties threaten their newfound relationship.

“Dirty Dancing” depicts the story of a naive, sheltered girl, Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey), who is spending the summer with her affluent family at Kellerman’s, a mountain resort. During her stay, Baby meets and becomes infatuated with the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), and his risque dancing. When circumstances leave Castle without a partner, Baby loses her innocence in the world of “dirty dancing” as Castle’s partner.

“Grease” takes place at Rydell High School in the late ‘50s.When local greaser, Danny Zuko (John Travolta), and vacationing Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) meet on the beach over the summer, they never expect to see each other again. However, friction is created between the T-Birds and the Pink Ladies, when the two unexpectedly meet in high school.

“The Notebook” begins with an elderly man named Duke (James Garner) reading a romantic story from his notebook to a fellow patient (Gena Rowlands). The story begins in 1940 in a small South Carolina town where Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) meets young, rich Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams). After spending the summer together, Noah suddenly abandons Allie, leaving her to establish her own life. However, when he returns many years later, Allie questions her entire life and happiness.

Whether it is a summer romance, an illicit affair or a first-time love, the allure of these relationships is eternal and all of these movies provide a great, relaxing pleasure.
