Inspirational figures have the ability to alter lives. Positive influences can be found everywhere if one is open to them.

Heroes can be found among family members, friends, teachers, classmates, celebrities, fictional superheroes or even strangers.

Chemistry teacher James Bell said, “I would define a hero as someone who makes sacrifices to help other people. My hero is Bruce Wayne (Batman) because he makes many sacrifices to make Gotham a safer city for its citizens.”

Heroes, however, need not be a vigilante or the protector of an entire city. It may be a neighbor or merely a compassionate individual.

Many times people are most influenced by the people in their lives.

Senior Jadeanne Domanguera said, “My mom is my hero. Everyone might consider their mom as their hero, but I am sincere about it. She is my hero because she always understands my feelings and always finds a way to help me be happy.”

Oftentimes, heroes are expected to resemble Superman or some other outrageous character. Heroes, however, can often be unrecognized ordinary people.

Recognizing admirable deeds of people like mothers is just as important as idolizing more public figures. Being grateful for those who are in one’s life is a good habit to form.

Because of social media and the connectedness of the Internet, people are often drawn to celebrities and their lives, discounting the real people around them.

Having positive influences in one’s life can help one be more ethical and have better behavior. Supportive, genuine people often prompt others to maintain better ethical, considerate conduct.

Anyone has the power to be someone’s hero. Living life purposefully and justly can persuade others to do the same.

Heroes can have a profound impact on the lives of many. When a hero is identified, positive changes frequently ensue.
