Ka Leo staff members, Megan Tang, Gloria Palma, Victoria Chang and Kanika Ung, celebrate the unexpected win for Best Web Site in the 2013 Hawaii Publishers High School Journalism Contest.

Sacred Hearts Academy’s student newspaper, Ka Leo, recently won Best Web Site in the online division and third place Best-in-State in the online division for the 2013 Hawaii Publishers Association High School Journalism awards.

“We all work really hard and being recognized for the time and effort we put forth is really encouraging,” said reporter Logan Motas.

“After working on the web site for two years, I am very proud of the accomplishments we have achieved as a team. I’ve seen this web site grow from no viewers at all to a few hundred and I’m very happy at how our Ka Leo is progressing and I’m excited to see how our Ka Leo will progress in the future,” said editor Megan Tang.

The staff of 16 was surprised but ecstatic about its accomplishments.

“We were very surprised and honored by these awards. It has solidified the hard work that we did when we switch from paper copy to online last year,” said senior Gloria Palma.
