The senior class performed its day of service to the community at the annual Valentine’s Day Carnival for the residents and day care clients of Leahi Hospital.

This was the second year that the seniors guided residents from booth to booth, provided donated stuffed animals for prizes, pushed wheelchairs and encouraged the senior citizens in joining the activities.

The service to Leahi Hospital started last year when the Theology Department decided to change service guidelines by having a specified theme for each division. Since juniors and seniors are a little older, they are sent into the community.

“The residents really liked to play the games; they were really into the activities. My patient was up for the challenge and wanted more games to play,” said senior Jennifer Valdez.

The juniors went out into the community to do their contribution to the environment by working in Papahana Kuaola loi, pulling weeds and moving mulch and rocks.

Senior division adviser, Leilani Asuncion-Tagupa, said, “It was heartwarming to see how much interaction the seniors got from the elderly. It was nice to see them talk to the elderly as if they were their own grandparents.”
