Recently, seventh grader Raena Ho’s family donated a 50-foot Big Island maile lei to commemorate the first basketball game in the recently renovated gym.

Maile is revered by Hawaiians and traditionally used to open a new building.

Each Academy coach was given a piece of the lei while the rest hangs above the “Home of the Lancers” sign in the gym.
