Student volunteers and runners helped the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by their participation in the Race for the Cure on Nov. 2.

The Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K run/fitness walks in the world.

Twenty-one student volunteers from Zonta Club, Soroptimist Club, Interact Club and Club Med assisted at the water station, with a big turnout from the Freshman Class, whose class service learning project targets health and wellness organizations.

Toni Normand, Director of Student Activities, said, “The volunteers were cheering all the runners on, many of whom were wearing signs that said, ‘I’m running in honor of…,’ or ‘In memory of…’ Seeing those signs really helped to put a face to the problem.

“It was a fun event and there were many businesses and community groups there to support the race. It was very nice to see the community get together like that,” said Normand.

Funds raised from the race go towards breast cancer research and funding local hospitals that provide breast cancer education, screening and treatment for women.
