Students successful in early cross country meet

Three young Academy runners placed in the first ILH cross country meet of the season at Iolani School on Aug. 30.

Eighth grader Arianna Radona finished second in the eighth grade race while Elizabeth Vinci and Jessica Jorgensen finished the seventh grade race in second and fourth places respectively.

Athletic Director Ryan Hogue said, “Radona returns as a consistent top finisher in both cross country and track and field distance races, and it’s nice to see a new crop of young Lancers have some early success.”

Although Radona and Jorgensen didn’t win, they were satisfied with their results.

Jorgensen said, “I felt very happy to finish fourth because I didn’t know what to expect and it was a great way to start the season.”

Radona said, “Although I finished as a second placer, I definitely think I could still improve my time. However, I am still proud of my accomplishment.”

A total of twenty-three schools competed.

“At this past week’s ILH cross country meet in Kaaawa Valley, our own Arianna Radona (8th grade) claimed first place overall for the Intermediate Race.
