Several Sacred Hearts Academy teachers have been reassigned to different classrooms than they had the previous school year, requiring them to adjust to new teaching environments as they prepare for the academic year ahead.
High School Interim Principal Cleo Eubanks said, “The reason for reassigning classrooms (is to meet) the needs of students, and we want the teachers from the same department to be near each other, so it’s easy for them to communicate.”
“Teachers usually request to change classrooms because they want to have a bigger space due to the increased number of students,” Eubanks said.
The Academy is dedicated to being a student-focused school. The main purpose of any change in the Academy is to let students have a more convenient and comfortable study environment, according to Eubanks.
Theology teacher Steffanie Beissel, who switched classrooms this year, finds the change satisfying. She moved from A301 to A316.
“The pros are larger rooms, more options for seating arrangement and more light. The con is the move itself,” Beissel said. “Changing rooms gave me a good opportunity to look through the supplies and materials I had in my classroom to determine if I really needed them.”
Math teacher Caitrin Holohan moved from the second to the third floor near the Chapel. Math teacher Monica Kelly moved from the third floor to the second floor. Social Studies teacher Thomas Gimber moved from near the Conference Center to near the Athletics Administrative Office. Science teacher Mercury Tsubata has another classroom on the second floor near the Chapel. This classroom is for teaching 6th grade science. Study Hall Teacher Melissa Thach moved from the third floor to the second floor near the faculty lounge.
Although teachers might have some difficulty with the move, most students say that they haven’t had an issue with the change.
Academy’s returning student sophomore Hazel Hung said, “I didn’t get confused (by the change in classrooms) because we have a course schedule, which includes the teacher’s name and classroom number.”
