Costumes from your closet

Halloween is just around the corner, and soon, the streets will be filled with princesses, pirates and pumpkins. While some plan extravagant costumes months before, others tend to wait until the very last minute because they’re either too busy or just don’t want to spend the money.

If you are among the latter, then here are some easy costumes ideas you can put together from things right inside of your closet.

“American Horror Story: Coven”

In the third season of this horror drama series, characters consistently wore black clothing. Therefore, a costume can be easily recreated with a black skirt and shirt. For an even eerier effect, add a black sweater and a necklace to the outfit.

Referee

For sports fanatics, dressing as their favorite teams is always a given. But what about those who have more than one? A solution to this dilemma could be to dress as a referee. All this costume needs is a vertically-striped shirt, but if you can’t find one, then get a plain white shirt and draw lines with a black fabric pen. The shirt can be paired with either a black skirt or a pair of black pants and of course, a whistle to call fouls with throughout the day.

Minnie Mouse

Minnie Mouse is known for being an adorable and girly character. She is usually seen with a red or pink color scheme. Therefore, wearing a red or pink shirt and skirt would be best. But the most crucial part of this outfit are the cute mouse ears, which most of us already have from past trips to Disneyland or could easily borrow from younger relatives.

Wednesday Addams

Remember the “Addams Family”? That creepy gothic family famous on the horror-fantasy series. Dress as the youngest daughter, Wednesday Addams. She wears a black dress with a white collar. But one of her signature trademarks is her hair, which is always put in two braided pony tails.

Cowgirl

Because of the recent trend in wearing flannel jackets, this particular garment is most likely something you already have in your closet. Pair it with jeans, boots and a cowgirl hat, and it’s a look that can be achieved without spending a great amount of money.

Oscar Winner

What better excuse to get dolled up than Halloween? Many celebrities attending the Oscars, or any award show, strut their stuff down the red carpet, wearing elegant dresses and suits. This outfit requires wearing a beautiful dress, with lace or gems, along with any award that might be lying around the house.

Ceiling Fan

This costume is for those who love puns. The materials needed are a pen and a poster board. Write a supportive message for the made-up team “ceiling,” dress in any attire, and now you’re the biggest fan on the block!
