Senior Jessica Hanashiro was named Female Athlete of the week on ScoringLive.  Hanashiro is a 5’9 post and plays a big part in the varsity basketball team’s latest wins.

Of this honorable mention, Hanashiro said, “I was shocked when I was chosen for female athlete of the week because it is usually given to students in one of the top schools like Punahou or Kamehameha. Also, I was honored not only for myself but for the team because we were recognized before the season started.”

Athletic director Ryan Hogue knows that he can count on Hanashiro this season.

Hogue said, “She’s a versatile threat so we need her to be a post presence and also a mismatch issue on offense. Plus, her leadership grows week by week. She’s more committed to learning, she’s working harder and the girls around her see the change and they know that they themselves can make the changes and find success.”

The varsity team has an unblemished 8-0 record in the preseason and hopes to have a winning season. The Lancers play in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu(ILH) Division I with Iolani, Punahou, Maryknoll and Kamehameha.

Among the top competitive teams in the ILH, Hogue said, “If we go out and fight, we can compete with these teams and our girls now believe it.”

Hanashiro and the Lancers will opened the ILH season at Kamehameha on Dec.12.
