Astrology is the study of the stars and planets and its effect on human affairs. Everyone is born under one of the 12 astrological signs based on birth date.  

The astrological signs all have something to do with one of the four elements of water, earth, fire and air.

The water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are best known for their intuitive, sympathetic and compassionate traits. However, their negative traits of being secretive, obstinate and overemotional can overpower others.

The earth signs of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are notable for being patient, reliable and persistent. Nevertheless, they are also noteworthy for their stubborn, pessimistic and resentful qualities.

Freshman Mikayla Lancaster-Hoover said, “I don’t really believe in astrology, but I do think the characteristics [of my horoscope] match me because as a Taurus, I am very stubborn.”  

The fire signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, are known for their enthusiastic, witty and optimistic character. In addition, they are distinguished for being impulsive, authoritative and impatient.

Senior Janelle Inao said, “Although I don’t believe in astrology,I find it very interesting to look at [my horoscope] from time to time because I like to see how closely my life follows it. Although I do not match a Sagittarius’ sense of humor, I match the ideal characteristics because I believe in ideas like ‘all people are good’ and that ‘there’s a time and place for everything.’”

The air signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, are known for their idealism, intellectual abilities and carefree attitude. However, their weaker qualities are unpredictability, stubbornness and contrariness.

Junior Keala-Mae Pomaikai said, “My astrological sign is Aquarius and I believe in astrology. I think the characteristics match me because I am very temperate when I feel the need to protect my friends and family. I am peaceful most of the time, and I tend to procrastinate a lot.”  

Every astrological sign is distinctive and independent from one another. Although they are different, the signs create a stable foundation for each other.
