Varsity track and field athletes succeeded at the ILH Varsity Championships on Apr. 25 at Kamehameha Schools.
Sophomore Phoebe Kirk claimed first place in the 800-meter run with a new personal record of 2:16.39 seconds.
“I was pleased with my performance in the varsity championships, my performance reflecting the dedicated training I’ve done. My goal is to have no regrets and to make the most of the opportunities I’ve been given,” said Kirk.
Senior Tiffany Atud was also successful in individual events, placing second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.15 seconds and sixth in the 200-meter dash with 28.38 seconds.
“Honestly, I’m not completely satisfied with my overall performance, but looking forward, I now have more motivation to succeed. I’m extremely excited for the upcoming state competition and to be able to run against the fastest individuals in Hawaii,” said Atud.
Senior Maile Romano earned seventh in the long jump event with a distance of 15 feet and three inches.
“After six years of running for the school track team, my time here is almost over and the work is finally rendering results. Trying my best and performing to the best of my ability is what I aim to do every competition,” said Romano.
The 4×100 meter relay team consisted of sophomore Alexandria Montiel, junior Kelli Keahiolalo and Atud and Romano. The team placed third in the final race.
The varsity team will compete at the HHSAA State Championships on May 9 and 10 at Kamehameha Schools.
