Ka Makana Alii shopping mall opens in Kapolei

The new mall in Kapolei is a welcomed addition to students living on the west side. For years, the nearest shopping venue was Pearlridge Center–more than 17 miles away. Now, with Ka Makana Alii, students are able to get their shopping fix at a more convenient location.

Retail therapy

The new mall has more than 20 clothing and accessory stores, including Forever 21, Macy’s, H&M and Old Navy. Footwear stores, such as Foot Locker, Famous Footwear and Skechers, provide an array of choices that would make anyone’s feet happy–from running shoes to sandals.

Many Sacred Hearts Academy students will be excited to find Zumiez, Hot Topic and Forever 21 at this mall; all stores at the forefront of today’s teen fashion scene.

Rix Island Wear, Reyn Spooner, Rip Curl and T&C Surf are perfect for shoppers interested in aloha attire or locally-designed clothing. The shops offer a variety of outfits, suitable for a day at the beach or a day in the office.

The mall will add more stores later this year, including Hollister, San Lorenzo Bikinis, Local Fever and American Eagle Outfitters.

Eateries for any craving

After working up an appetite from exploring the new mall, shoppers will find just as many eateries as retail stores. There are more than 20 restaurants, specializing in everything from sweet pancakes to spicy Cajun food.

For food on the go, shoppers can stop by Panda Express, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and Subway. Many are looking forward to restaurants, such as Sura Hawaii and Bonchon, because prior to the mall’s opening, the only locations were in Honolulu.

More eateries will be added in the coming year, including a second Applebee’s location. The first one opened over the summer in Ewa.

Additional features

Catering to tourists and visitors, the mall opened a Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton. A 24 Hour Fitness will also be available to those looking to get a good workout. There will also be a few stores that specialize in nail care, such as Nail Tek and Lavish Nails.

Lastly, the new Olino by Consolidated Theaters gives moviegoers the opportunity to sit back and relax in reclining seats, as they dine on kim chi hamburgers, chicken tenders and green bean fries. With many more options such as tea, coffee and various desserts, this movie experience is as comfortable as it is at home.
