Members of the Soroptimist club (S club) volunteered on Nov. 2 at the “Happiest 5k on the Planet,” a unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality.
Members worked at the pink color station, throwing dye at runners as they passed by.
Senior Ashley Barley said, “This was the first time I volunteered in the Color Run. It was exciting to encourage runners and throw dye. Although I did not run in the race, I felt the energy and excitement from the runners.”
Runners of all ages participated in the Color Run.
Senior Angelica Barker said, “There was a 97-year-old woman who was being pushed in a wheelchair and she was excited to be covered in the different dye colors.”
Unlike other 5K races, the Color Run event was a fun and crazy event for friends and families. The Color Run was begun in January 2012 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together. The Color Run has tripled in growth, hosting more than 170 events in more than 30 countries this year.
The Color Run is a for-profit management company that partners with charities. They have contributed more than one million dollars through donations to more than 80 American charities since 2012.
