The Academy’s Soroptimist club participated in graffiti painting on Oct. 19 as members repainted the walls under Kalanianaole Highway.
“Although my arms got tired from painting the high walls for an hour and a half, it was a fun experience to paint over the graffiti near Kahala Mall,” said junior Kaela Fiesta.
S Club is affiliated with Soroptimist International, a worldwide organization for women. It is committed to improving the lives of women and girls around the world by helping them reach their potential, realize their hopes and aspirations and have a voice “in creating strong, peaceful communities around the world,” according to soroptimistinternational.org. The Academy S Club is the only one of its kind in the state of Hawaii.
The club’s activities for this year include ushering at Kennedy Theater at the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus, Adopt-a-Highway cleanups, graffiting painting, The Color Run, Salvation Army bell ringing and the Easter Seals event in December just to name a few.
Secretary Erica Cadiz said, “It was a successful and fun service project. It felt great helping the community of Kahala. I just hope that no one will paint new graffiti on the recently painted walls.”
