The Academy varsity precision air riflery team participated in the National Qualifiers on Apr. 27. Riflery teams throughout the state compete against one another in hopes of going on to the national competition.
“This sport takes a lot of focus and concentration, but with the support of each other and trying to do our best we did great,” said junior Justine Wong.
The winning team of juniors Sara Tashima, Danielle Ho, Justine Wong and freshman Aimee Pak, scored 2,256 points.
“We did very well and will hopefully qualify for nationals. Last time we got that far was in my freshman year,” said Ho.
Only 14 teams, as well as selected individuals, will receive an invitation to the national competition in Alabama in the week of May 12.
Tashima has the possibility of earning an individual berth with the score of 584 out of 600.
“I am very proud to have placed first and very proud of my team for doing so well. I hope that we will get a chance at nationals and if we do, we are going to work hard so that we will do well there,” said Tashima.
