Lower school students participated in the only Catholic schools track meet of the year on Feb. 6.

Fifth and sixth graders, many of whom had never competed in a track meet previously, ran hard and finished third overall. Other school teams were Holy Family, Maryknoll, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Patrick and St. Theresa.

Students competed in the 50-meter dash, 400-meter, sprint medley and long jump.

Coach Laurel Oshiro said, “I was really impressed that the girls were excited for track season. They all cooperated and were very cohesive. They formed friendships and were  positive. I’m beyond proud of the them.”

Although participants didn’t come in first, they were content with the results.

Ashlyn Kim said, “This whole experience taught me that even if you’re small, you can do big things. Although I wasn’t in first place, it was a good experience since it was my first time.”

Fourteen students participated in the meet at Mililani High School.
