Sacred Hearts Academy prides itself on promoting school spirit and life-long friendships among students. Yet, despite the idea of sisterhood being emphasized in activities, students are sometimes reluctant to demonstrate it, preferring to promote divisional pride instead.

As students settle into school routines, feelings of life at school are beginning to surface. Because of functions such as the Back to School assembly and the Sacred Hearts’ birthday assembly, it’s clear that students are proud of their school.

Lancer pride is most exemplified at assemblies where students play games, cheer, dance and sing openly as a cohesive student body. Such events create opportunities for students to have fun, demonstrate school pride and feel unity.

When students actively participate in school activities together, friendlier relations can form. Building school spirit betters not only the attitudes and feelings of the students but also their perspective of the school.

Seeing white and gold streamers and balloons at Sacred Hearts Academy creates enthusiasm and excitement among students.

Though the gaiety at assemblies has increased, some may argue that passion dwindles at other times. Indifferent faces are often seen trudging to mass or class. At flag assembly, few voices are heard singing. Students seem to be willing to participate only in assemblies or activities that will allow them to leave class.

The unity that is shown at assemblies or activities proves that school pride exists. Although students are hesitant to participate in all school-related activities, most times they are proud nonetheless.

School spirit depends not only on the fun activities that are presented in school but also the willingness of students to participate in what the Academy offers.

While opportunities for amusement have increased at school, enjoying the occasion and creating school unity depend on students’ receptiveness.

Lancer pride is increasing thanks to activities that encourage the involvement of students.

School spirit has been sparked and occasionally flares, but the flame needs to be continuously sustained.
