This year, senior Jenica Wong became the first student from Sacred Hearts Academy to play football. She represents the all-girls Catholic school on PAC-5's football team. Her coaches say she is treated the same as the boys and that her dedication and hard work earned her playing time. "The first actual game I played…we were versing Saint Louis School (SLS) and up by 10 points,” she said. “Toward the end of the game, the special team’s coach grabbed me by the collar and told me, ‘hit somebody,’ and I went with that in mind.” While she didn’t make any plays that day, PAC-5 won the game against SLS, with a score of 10-0. “This was not only a win for PAC-5 but for the stigma that ‘girls don't belong’ or ‘girls can't play,’” the 17-year-old said about the October game.

Jasmine Matsumoto is a proud junior of the Sacred Hearts Academy. In her free time she creatively expresses herself as an artist who plays ukulele and recently learned guitar. She believes being a Journalist is having the power to update, convey and communicate what is going on in the public.  In journalism she is looking forward to learning about camera’s with their tips and tricks to make beautiful videos, or pictures. Other than journalism Jasmine takes the Girls Who Code club.

More than 800,000 American immigrants are being affected by recent policy changes made by the Trump Administration. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) organization, which is currently being phased out, allowed individuals who entered the country as minors to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation to be eligible for a work permit. In an interview, President Donald Trump stated that more Norwegian immigrants, or white Europeans, should apply for American citizenship. In contrast, immigrants from war-torn countries, like Syria, are being refused refuge in America.
