Senior paddler Greer Smith was recognized as Lancer of the Month for March. Smith was named first team ILH and the paddling crew’s most valuable player (MVP) for leading the team through its successful season.
Smith said, “I tried my best to do whatever it takes to make everyone grow as paddlers and as individuals. I tried to lead by example and help out with everyone in whatever way that I could.”
Paddling coach, Elizabeth Loo, said, “She was always willing to make changes, open to corrections, and showed support and guidance to her teammates and coaches. She always made sure the team was ready and once in the canoe, she would paddle her hardest all the time.”
Smith is in the National Honor Society and drum major of the marching band, all while maintaining a 4.17 GPA.
English teacher, Jill Sprott, said, “She is always smiling even when other students aren’t and she is a focused individual who works hard to reach her goals.”
Smith will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall.
“Madison was my first choice school and my father is an alumnus, so I am so excited to carry on the tradition. I will be trying out for the Division I rowing team and majoring in zoology.”
