Although seniors have completed applications to colleges, many remain busy filling out scholarship applications. In early March, a handful of scholarship organizations began notifying recipients of awards.
Senior Whitney Kim has won the Soroptimist Youth Citizen and the Violet Richardson Awards.
Seniors Caroline Kikkawa, Jacqueline Medrano and Angelique Puesta are the recipients of $1,000 Hawaii Rotary Scholarships, Kikkawa through the Hawaii Kai chapter, Medrano the Wahiawa-Waialua chapter and Puesta the Pearl Harbor chapter.
Puesta said, “I am extremely honored to be a recipient of this award. Every scholarship helps in easing the burden of tuition on my family.”
Kikkawa said, “I was surprised when I learned that the Rotary Club awarded me with a scholarship since there were a lot of very strong applicants. More than anything, I was very grateful for being awarded such a prestigious scholarship.”
Senior Natalie Hajenilian won a $5,000 Hawaii Rotary Scholarship from the Kapolei-Sunset chapter.
Hajenilian said, “When I was chosen as the recipient for the Rotary scholarship, I was beyond surprised and was left speechless. I told myself that God is the only one that knows who is to receive the scholarship and I need to understand that I am beyond blessed for even receiving the first scholarship and that’s exactly the mindset I entered the first and second interview with.”
Senior Nadia Busekrus was awarded full tuition to George Mason University in Virginia.
