The Senior Class service this year involves working with the poor and elderly. On Mar. 19 the entire class will be assisting elderly at Leahi Hospital for the “Spring Fling” Carnival. Leahi Hospital is a long-term care facility run by the state for those who cannot be cared for by family.
Senior Angela Wong said, “I think this will be a great experience for us as a class and as individuals to learn how to take care of others. I’m looking forward to it and the memories that we will make while we are there.”
Seniors will be working individually with residents, transporting them to games while interacting with them. They will also be running the activity stations which include a pedicure station.
Senior adviser Elizabeth Gabriel said, “Leahi staff will be providing wheelchair safety orientation as well as advice on how to communicate with the elderly since many of them are hard of hearing.”
Students have been asked to donate small stuffed animals to be used as game prizes for the elderly, who enjoy the soft, cuddly animals.
Senior Tiare Sadarananda said, “We are in the process of collecting teddy bears. It’s amazing that we can make a difference by doing just one small thing.”
