Adrienne Enz, a foreign exchange student from Switzerland, joined the Senior Class in January. Enz attended a bilingual school for nine years in Switzerland where she studied English and was exposed to different cultures.
“It has always been my dream to live in the States, to experience America not only as a holiday destination, but to experience the American lifestyle in everyday life. The American culture and English language were fascinating to my friends and me. The American high school experience portrayed in movies looked so fun,” Enz said.
Enz was influenced to study abroad in Hawaii by a family friend who had previously experienced living in Hawaii with a host family. The exchange organization allowed Enz to live with the same host family who had hosted her friend. She will be living with her host family for six months.
Enz said, “So far, Hawaii has been paradise. The beautiful scenery, amazing beaches and warm weather are making my stay in Hawaii a great one. Luckily, up to now, I haven’t had to face any big challenges; however, getting to know people can be hard since there are different people in each class [in school]. I also don’t seem to understand American football, but it is something I am planning to learn.”
The Academy’s friendly aura made an impact on Enz’s decision of which high school to attend.
Enz said, “The school was extremely welcoming, so my parents thought that I would be in good hands at Sacred Hearts. I also thought that it would be a fun experience to go to an all-girls’ school.”
International studies enhance a student’s educational experiences and offer a global view and perspectives.
Enz said, “I think that if people are given the opportunity to take part in international studies, they should take advantage of that opportunity.”
Following her six months in Hawaii, Enz will be returning to Switzerland to complete two more years of high school before attending a university.
