The annual Renaissance Fair was held on Jan. 22 giving ninth grade students the opportunity to develop inventions, write and film movie trailers and create unique projects, reflecting the characteristics of the Renaissance period.
Under the guidance of social studies teacher, Wendy Bowers, students have been working on their projects since Nov. 11.
Freshman Rylee Arecchi said, “This project has allowed my group and me to evaluate current inventions and think about how they can be improved. Throughout the project, there were multiple check points so during the past two months we worked actively together and with Ms. Bowers.”
This project is designed to correlate the ideas of the Renaissance, including innovation, intellectual thought, individualism and multi-talents, to the world of the 21st century.
Freshman Suzanne Tsukenjo said, “My group’s invention is a razor sharpener. Instead of replacing the blade every so often, one could own only one blade and simply sharpen it when it gets dull.”
There was a variety of inventions from novel food creations to handy new tools. Expositions included “Molten Mochi Extravaganza,” “Naked Lip Balm,” “Ramen Burger,” “Razor Savor,” “Doux Parfume” and “Musicians Think Alike–I Wanna Be Me.”
Junior Ye Eun Lee said, “The expositions this year were really creative. I enjoyed all of the food expositions because they gave out free samples, and there were many new flavors that I experienced through this Renaissance Fair.”
“We live in a Renaissance world that embraces these same ideas of ingenuity so this project shows the students how the Renaissance era is similar to the time they live in,” said Bowers.
