Introduction to Computer students presented semester projects on Dec. 12. Seventh graders created a two-week virtual tour of a city or country outside the United States using computer skills acquired throughout the semester.
Seventh grader Kristin Lau said, “I researched Taiwan, a country near China, and enjoyed understanding about their culture and foods.
The project included a detailed itinerary, maps, points of interest, historical facts, restaurants and weather reports.
Seventh grader LeGrand Pound, whose project involved Brazil, said, “I liked learning about the country and some of interesting facts about the country like its founder and about some activities that are popular there. I worked on this project for two to three months straight and then presented it to my family and some friends.”
The collected information was transferred to presentation software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Apple iMovie and Keynote.
Computer teacher Miriam Slate said, “In order to accomplish their goal, students had to use several different types of software: word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software and web page building.”
Students presented their completed projects to other students during the school day.
“I prepared by making my presentation a lot like an interesting topic one would enjoy learning about. Some of the people who visited my presentation said it felt like a commercial, so I’m very happy with the result,” said Lau.
