Sacred Hearts Academy students attended the Year of Faith Celebration hosted by the Diocese of Honolulu at Star of the Sea parish on Nov. 23 with Catholic schools from across the island.
The event was held in honor of the “Year of Faith” celebrated by the Catholic church. Each attending school created and managed a booth as a fundraiser for the schools.
“This celebration was a great way to meet new people and interact with other members of the Catholic faith community!” said senior Angela Wong.
The event was open to the public. Participants could purchase script to play games hosted by each school.
The Academy’s game booth was managed by the student council with assistance from finance representatives and student senators, which contributed to a successful event.
“Our student council had a great time at the Year of Faith celebration. We put a lot of effort into designing a game that kids would have fun playing. We’re glad it was received well,” said council vice-president Caroline Kikkawa
The Academy’s game, “Lancer Luck,” required participants to toss pennies into “pots of gold” at each end of the rainbow on the game board. Council members created and designed the game and all worked at the event.
The booth had a significant number of participants who enjoyed the game. The funds raised will be used in future events and activities.
“The volunteers at the event were well organized and really helpful so we enjoyed ourselves,” said SFA chair, Erica Freitas
In addition to the student council’s booth, the high school choir and Hawaiian Chant and Dance classes performed at the event.
