Project Graduation started at the Academy more than 20 years ago. The purpose of the event is for newly-graduated seniors to enjoy a night with classmates immediately after commencement ceremonies. It is held throughout the night after graduation with students returning home the next morning.
“The surprise element of Project Graduation is very exciting for students, so they are motivated to fundraise,” said junior Kaela Fiesta.
The Class of 2015 has begun fundraising for its Project Graduation for the past year. Students are currently holding several student-run fundraisers.
“The fundraisers actually bring the class together because we are all working towards the same goal,” said junior Pamela Lee.
One project is a collection of family recipes from which the class has produced a cookbook with traditional recipes from students’ families. Because of its many sources, the book is very diverse. Students are currently taking orders for these books at $10 each. The books will be delivered after the student has collected her customers’ orders.
“It’s a simple process: students take orders and I give them cookbooks. We ordered a supply of books so students can actually sell year-round,” said division adviser Leilani Asuncion-Tagupa.
The Christmas wreath and tree sale is also being hosted by the Junior Class. Christmas tree orders have already been taken and are to be picked up the weekend of Dec. 6-8 in the front parking lot of the school. Juniors will be carrying, managing and handling numerous Christmas trees and wreaths in shifts throughout the three days. Walk-in sales are also possible.
