Since pizza is one of the mainstays of the American diet, the question of where to go for pizza is a serious one.
“I love Costco pizza because I can make it at home and it’s cheap. I can also add whatever toppings I personally want because I cook it at home,” said junior Kate Desborough.
New York is famous for its great pizzas as it snags 30 slots in the top 100 for The Daily Meal, an organization of bloggers, writers and “pizza authorities.” California follows with 12 and Chicago with seven restaurants placing in the rankings of The Daily Meal.
“I had this great pizza in New York, a specialty pizza called Grandma’s pizza,” said junior Olivia Brittin.
Although New York takes the lead, the best pizza in America, as reported by restaurant critics and American Chefs, comes from Frank Pepe in New Haven, Conn. Pepe’s white clam pizza is made with clams and topped with oregano, olive oil and grated Parmesan.
Number two on the list is Di Fara of the Brooklyn area. The popular restaurant is well-known for its “Classic Round Pie,” made with mozzarella and topped with Parmesan, sausage, plum tomato sauce, basil and olive oil.
The third best pizza restaurant in the country is located in Phoenix, Ariz. Pizzeria Bianco is famous for its marinara pizza that only uses tomato sauce, oregano and garlic but lacks cheese.
A majority of the best-rated pizza restaurants is located in New York or California, and the best pizzas are usually margherita pizzas. Margherita pizzas have Parmesan, mozzarella, basil leaves and tomatoes. Hawaii restaurants do not place in the top 100 rankings, but consumers have their own personal favorites.
“I think the best pizza on the island is Roundtable because their bread is always so soft,” said junior Shaiann Smith.
