Lancer Robotics competed at Mililani High School in the Central Oahu VEX Robotics Competition on Nov. 1 and 2.
This year’s game was Toss Up, the purpose of which was to score more points than the opposing alliance by the end of the match. Points were earned by putting BuckyBalls and large balls into designated areas, the middle and goal zones. Additional points were also earned by hanging the robot with or without a ball in the goal zone. A bonus was awarded to the alliance which had more points at the end of the autonomous period.
Senior Angela Wong, juniors Jessica Alyssa Manuel and Kristen Kate Tumacder, sophomore Samantha Lee, and seventh grader Amanda-Joy Lee participated in the event. Robotics adviser Peter Park and programming mentor Fan Li guided student participants.
This is the first VEX competition that Lancer Robotics competed in since Peter Park became the adviser.
Park said, “I have high ambitions for Lancer Robotics. We have all the support and resources that we could ever hope for. It will take hard work and commitment to build team capacity over the next few years. My hope is to build a highly entrepreneurial team.
“From now on until the announcement of the new game in April, the VEX team members will go through the ROBOTC programming curriculum and complete student certifications. As soon as the new game is announced in April, we will build the new machine and complete it by the end of the school year. Our first competition will be in mid-August. We will participate in two more tournaments in October and November to fine tune our machine and tactics. We will also acquire the game field to simulate practice in the competition environment.”
