Spanish students participated in El Dia de los Muertos creating ofrendas or tombstones to honor Mexican figures in honor of the Day of the Dead on Nov. 1.
Senior Kaela LaBang said, “There were a lot of creative posters. It was good to see different Spanish levels come together to truly make the Day of the Dead a celebration. I am in Spanish IV and I made a tombstone for Moctezuma. Creating tombstones and presenting them to other students and faculty was interesting because it really helped me to learn about the culture.”
Students, teachers and administration were invited to visit the festivities, which included face masks, flowers and tombstone presentations.
Spanish club president Ye Eun Lee said, “Many people visited the presentations and participated in the activities that were offered. Students from different languages even came to support Spanish students.”
Spanish teacher Keeley Cestare said, “I am proud of my students and the outcome of the presentations. I was surprised and pleased by the turn out of crowd. I can’t wait to do this project again next year.”
