The entire varsity bowling team qualified for the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) State Championships, a first in school history.
The team accomplished this with the help of junior Caitlin Cunningham who ranked first in the ILH singles competition and who had the second highest average in the overall season. Senior Kasandra Kitagawa was fourth, juniors Hailey Ganiron and Leeyannah Santos came in eighth and tenth respectively.
Cunningham said, “I was very happy with how I did. Last year I came in second in the ILH so it was my goal to come out on top and I am happy that I accomplished my goal.”
Cunningham ran away from the ILH field by rolling impressive games of 247, 265 and 199 for a 703. The next closest score was 578.
At states the bowlers placed third behind Pearl City and Hawaii Baptist Academy. Cunningham placed third individually and Kitagawa placed eighth.
Kitagawa said, “My senior season has been wonderful. We have accomplished so much as individuals and as a team. I was very excited to represent my school for the last time and will cherish my last memories as a Lancer bowler.”
