Senior Sara Tashima and sophomore Jessica Wehrman competed in the Air Riflery State Championships on Oct. 29. Tashima finished third, after Maryknoll’s Nadia Hata and St. Francis’ Toni Silva, with a score of 543-13 while Wehrman finished tenth with a score of 523-14.
Tashima said, “Since it was my last and final year for competing in the state competition, I really wanted to earn the title of state champion. This, however, created a sense of anxiousness causing a majority of my shots to be bad. But, eventually I calmed down and repositioned myself to shoot better.”
This was Wehrman’s first time competing at states.
Wehrman said, “I was really nervous but it helped having Sara there, who is experienced, supporting me.”
The state competition concluded the sporter air riflery season. Precision season with shooters competing in the standing position began Nov.1.
