Teachers Keri Sarbida and Wanda Pila took their first graders to the Hawaii Nature Center in Makiki on Oct. 8 to give students a first-hand look at plant cycles and insects.
Sarbida said, “We usually go every year and since we were learning about plant cycles and insects, Mrs. Pila and I wanted to take the students to Hawaii Nature Center to give them an understanding about what we were learning about.”
First grader Taylor Chatigny said, “I really enjoyed the field trip because we learned how to catch grasshoppers and all about food chains.”
Pila said, “The main purpose of the field trip was for the first graders to learn about the growth of plants. The students were able to look for insects and learn about their different habitats. They especially loved the fishing activity.”
“I really enjoyed going to the field trip because we got to learn about plants and insects. I also had fun learning about things that I didn’t know before,” said first grader Mikela Ibos-Agno.
