Senior Angela Wong was named the Student of the Month by the Friends of Hawaii Robotics (FHR), a non-profit organization that supports robotics programs in the state of Hawaii. Other sponsors include Oceanic Time Warner Cable, Clear Channel Broadcasting and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
In addition to the individual award, Wong and the Lancer Robotics team was awarded for their innovative approach to completing the missions of the robotics programs and the extra effort they put forward to support and cooperate with others.
The award recognizes robotics teams and students whose work inspires others to be involved in robotics and for their innovative approach to spreading the mission of the robotics program.
Wong said, “I was really humbled by this award and appreciative of this award! My robotics adviser, Mr. Park, had informed me that he was nominating our team, but little did I know that he also nominated me as a student as well. I was shocked but grateful for his nomination.
“This award has made me more thankful for the peers and mentors who nominated me. I plan on continuing my participation in robotics at Sacred Hearts and I am looking forward to seeing other team members win this student of the month award, too!”
Wong has earned this award through her pursuit of robotics.
“I have been participating in robotics since grade 8, and now as a senior, I am very thankful for all the wonderful opportunities I have gotten to experience, this award being one of them!”
Wong will soon record a radio commercial that will run on seven Clear Channel radio stations. The team will be featured in an upcoming issue of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
